A commenter on Wonkette sums things up nicely:

Derbyshire thinks it’s those marines duty to die for their country. I like Patton’s philosophy better:
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.”

which pretty much sums it up. I find it infinitely amusing that civilians with absolutely no military service EVER, condemn people on the sharp end for not just up and dying for their country.

YES, if the rules say, “Don’t allow yourself to be a puppet” then they should have disciplinary action against them. But c’mon: I am not aware of a standing order that said, “If captured, death before dishonor”. (At least I don’t recall anything about it)
