I write programs and scripts in Perl, PHP, SQL, Unix, Javascript, HTML, etc. for a living.
I use Macs a lot, and Linux on the server side. I don’t use Windows except in a virtual machine.
I like to joke that my life’s goal is to never write SQL or Web pages, which is an odd goal for a web programmer whose company is devoted to e-commerce. The point is that, I’m a big fan of technologies like ADO, MVC frameworks, YUI, and the like.
I listen to punk rock, metal, and electronica of all sorts. I’m a shameless proponent of satellite radio and equally shameless hater of FM radio; I think satrad is the future (hundreds of channels, a giant virtual iPod that never runs out of batteries, talk unregulated by the FCC, and so on) and will hate on FM at the drop of a hat.
My politics skew heavily Libertarian: leave me the hell alone, let me make my own decisions. Government should exist to serve the people, and protect us from other governments; and sometimes to act as impartial referee in private disputes. I am sensitive to the needs of the progressive movement - the idea of health care for everyone is a wonderful idea - but the relentless accumulation of incompetence and stupidity of government makes me resist the plans of the progressives. Once handed power, governments never return it.
